Simple Black Wallpaper
Black without the noise — elegant near-solids, dark minimal scenery, quiet abstracts. The shelf between plain and boring. Free to download; sign in to post your own.
Simple does not have to mean empty. The strongest pieces here hold exactly one element in the dark — a horizon line, a soft abstract curve, an elegant sheen — enough to make the screen feel finished without ever crowding it. It is the gallery to try when a pure solid feels too stark but anything patterned feels like too much. Wide cuts lead, tall ones follow close behind, so most screens are covered. Save with a right-click on desktop or a long-press on mobile, then set it from your system settings. Free for personal use, no watermark on anything.
Common questions
Do black wallpapers actually save battery?
On OLED and AMOLED screens, yes. A true-black (#000000) pixel is switched off rather than dimmed, so it draws no power — and with an always-on display that runs all day the difference is measurable. On an LCD screen it saves nothing, because the backlight stays on either way. Not sure which you have? Our OLED test tool fills the screen with pure black: on an OLED it goes completely dark, on an LCD you can still see the backlight glowing grey.
