Plain Black Portrait Wallpaper
Plain blacks with the tall cuts pulled forward — lock-screen solids, a lion in the dark, deep-space blacks — though the wide versions kept sneaking in too. Free to download.
The name says portrait, and the tall files here do exactly what a phone wants: fill the screen edge to edge with quiet black and let the clock sit in silence. But honesty first — the gallery holds nearly as many wide frames as tall ones, because the same plain blacks kept arriving in both shapes. So treat it as a plain-black collection with a strong portrait section rather than a tall-only list, and check the shape before you download. Long-press on mobile or right-click on desktop to save, then set it from your wallpaper settings. Free for personal use, no signup.
Common questions
Do black wallpapers actually save battery?
On OLED and AMOLED screens, yes. A true-black (#000000) pixel is switched off rather than dimmed, so it draws no power — and with an always-on display that runs all day the difference is measurable. On an LCD screen it saves nothing, because the backlight stays on either way. Not sure which you have? Our OLED test tool fills the screen with pure black: on an OLED it goes completely dark, on an LCD you can still see the backlight glowing grey.
