This style relies on deep red against black, which is the hardest colour pair a screen renders — dark reds sit at the edge of the sRGB gamut and compress badly, turning crisp crack lines into muddy brown edges. Source quality keeps them sharp. On OLED only the heart is lit against genuinely switched-off black, which is why the red reads deeper here than it would on any other panel. Do black wallpapers actually save battery?
On OLED and AMOLED screens, yes. A true-black (#000000) pixel is switched off rather than dimmed, so it draws no power — and with an always-on display that runs all day the difference is measurable. On an LCD screen it saves nothing, because the backlight stays on either way. Not sure which you have?
